LEO-II v2.3.2 -- what is new (October 2026) Reads TPTP's distinct objects. A distinct object is written in double quotes, "Apple", and two of them written differently denote different elements of the domain. The lexer had no rule for them: a quote fell to the rule that drops a character the lexer does not know, so "Apple" was read as the variable Apple. The whole conjecture of SYO561+1 is "Apple" != "Microsoft", a theorem that v2.3.1 answered CounterSatisfiable, and p("Apple") |- p("Microsoft"), which no interpretation satisfies, it answered Theorem. Reported by Geoff Sutcliffe. * A distinct object is now a constant of type $i, known by the name TPTP writes it with, the quotes included: a constant of a problem is a word or a single-quoted atom, so no distinct object can be taken for one. A first-order prover is given the object as TPTP writes it, which is what it reads as a distinct object too. * That two of them are different is said by no formula of the problem, so the disequations, one for each pair the problem mentions, are added when the problem is read, and a proof says in their source that the problem does not state them: thf(3,axiom,("Apple" != "Microsoft"),introduced(tautology,[distinct_objects])). * They are quadratic in the number of objects, so they are made for at most twenty. The library is far on one side of that or the other: of the 26990 problems of TPTP v9.3.1 six name a distinct object at all, and none more than three, while four axiom files -- SUMO and the BIO ontology -- write their numerals as distinct objects, 617 of them in CSR003+2.ax. Above the twenty only the first-order prover reads them as distinct, so a saturation is reported Unknown and not CounterSatisfiable. * The THF problems LEO-II writes for itself no longer declare a type for a distinct object: $i is its type by the definition of the language, and ("Apple": $i) is no declaration the language allows. Also: a problem in TFF, TCF or TPI now comes back "SZS status Inappropriate", which is what SZS has for logical data a system cannot take, and not "Error", which says that the problem is malformed. SYO561_1 and SYO561_2, the TFF forms of the problem above, are such problems. A problem that is in fact malformed is still an Error, and both now name the problem in their status line. A problem that names no distinct object is unchanged, down to the clause numbers, since no disequation is made. Of 168 problems of TPTP v9.3.1, 120 THF and 48 FOF taken at a fixed stride through the library, v2.3.2 and v2.3.1 answer 167 alike at eight seconds; the one that differs is CSR104+1, which includes 14792 formulas of SUMO: v2.3.1 could not read it at all, its distinct objects making a syntax error, and v2.3.2 reads it and reports Unknown.
